The Women Waste Worker Project was implemented by the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) Nepal with support from the Steelworkers Humanity Fund in Canada. The major goal of the program was to promote decent working conditions for waste workers. This is the second phase of the program from August 2024 to December 2025. Through a combination of structured trainings, advocacy activities, workshops, and community meetings, the project not only met but significantly exceeded its initial target, directly reaching nearly 1,000 individuals. In addition, the project’s social media and digital advocacy efforts reached approximately 3,000 individuals, further amplifying awareness of occupational health and safety issues and stimulating wider public dialogue beyond direct participants.

The initiative engaged over 5000 stakeholders, including representatives of local government bodies, NGOs, women waste workers, waste management companies representatives, school students and staff, youth volunteers, the town improvement committee, and hospital waste workers. This expanded reach reflects the project’s holistic and inclusive approach to addressing occupational health and safety challenges across the broader waste management ecosystem.
